Carbon and Carbon Classic

Our bestseller is the Carbon Fiberreed, the black-and-white coated reed. The white layers are the trademark of the synthetic hollow fibers that have been used for manufacturing Fiberreed reeds right from the beginning. They give the reed a beautiful, reed-like buzz. On the Carbon model, the white hollow fibers are coated with carbon fibers, which add a distinct, bright edge to the sound—especially ideal when you need volume and clarity to play alongside amplified instruments.
When playing low and soft, they still deliver a rich, full sub-tone. Compared to the Natural Fiberreed, the Carbon Fiberreed sounds slightly richer in overtones and features a somewhat broader sound spectrum. The lows are rich, the highs are powerful, and it maintains a compelling presence throughout.
The Carbon Fiberreed sounds brighter and more radiant, while the Classic model sounds darker and softer. The standard Carbon blows easily and freely, whereas the Classic cut offers more resistance and produces a slightly fuller tone because it has more heart before the reed tapers toward the tip.

Natural and Natural Classic

The Natural models are the original Fiberreed reeds made solely from the white hollow-fiber material engineered to replicate natural cane (Arundo donax). The white material generates a pure tone that allows you to shape your desired sound using various embouchure techniques to alter tonal characteristics, including the widest range in overtone and altissimo playing. In the middle and lower registers, they produce a satisfying, full-bodied sound. The Natural Classic Fiberreed features a steeper cut, making it sound somewhat darker and softer than the Natural Fiberreed. It is particularly well suited for a vintage jazz sound or for classical mouthpieces like the Selmer C* in classical settings.

Hemp

The Hemp Fiberreed features a curved cut similar to a traditional cane reed, unlike the straight cut of the Carbon and Natural models. Made of over 80% organic material (hemp and wood), it produces a darker, earthy sound with a broad overtone spectrum. Nevertheless, it plays clearly and precisely in the high register and altissimo.

Onyx and Copper

The Carbon Onyx and Copper Carbon Classic Fiberreeds consist of epoxy infused with carbon and copper fibers. The Carbon Onyx are free-blowing and sound bright and clear, while the Copper Carbon Classics offer more resistance and develop a slightly darker, rounder tone. High registers and altissimo are solid on both models. Playability and response are very similar to the hollow-fiber Fiberreeds, but with less buzz.
